Futurative, The Contemplative Futures Residency

Edge Esmeralda · Healdsburg, California · May 30 – June 27, 2026

The most consequential futures work happens inside.

Quick facts

About Edge Esmeralda

Once a year, over a thousand of the world's most ambitious and creative researchers, entrepreneurs, and technologists gather in Healdsburg, CA for Edge Esmeralda. What was once a community for people with niche interests in decentralized finance and science has blossomed into one of the best global convenings of adaptive technologists working at the frontiers of human flourishing and consciousness interests.

A month-long popup village gathering founders, scientists, artists, and builders working across cryptography, neurotech, longevity, AI, and the protocols shaping how we live and learn together. Past participants have included voices from Protocol Labs, Anthropic, the Ethereum Foundation, Long Journey Ventures, Cradle, Summer of Protocols, and beyond.

Voices from the Edge community

"Edge Esmeralda is one of the most interesting experiments in community building going on right now.", Vitalik Buterin, Co-founder, Ethereum
"Edge Esmeralda was an unusually high concentration of people doing genuinely interesting work across a wide range of fields."
"Edge Esmeralda gathered some of the most thoughtful people I know working on the future of longevity and frontier science."

About the Contemplative Futures Residency

This year, a new conversation is forming around consciousness, meditation, technology, and human flourishing. At Edge Esmeralda, founders, scientists, artists, contemplatives, protocol designers, and institution-builders will gather to explore not only what we can build next, but what kinds of minds and cultures are needed to build well.

Futurative is Meditation Artifacts' home for that conversation. It brings together people working across mind science, transformation technology, religious traditions, AI, longevity, governance, culture, and education, people who understand that a better future is not only a technical project, but an inner and institutional one. Join us for salons, talks, experiments, meals, walks, and practice across four weeks in Healdsburg.

Major themes

Researching our future selves

Building our foundation in empiricism and modern research, for a more systematic approach to the mind. Solving the problems of attention, and building toward a more rigorous understanding of human thought.

Where the mind meets the machine

Meditation technologies, AI and ontology, and the question of human agency at the frontier of practice and technology. Hacker houses, venture capital, incubators and the practitioners who are building from within.

Feed the solutions and the problems will starve

We can't keep circling the same drain without falling in. New thinkers, new decisions, new ways to imagine a world as hopeful instead of hopeless.

How we become good ancestors of consciousness

We need new institutions, new systems, and the people to sustain them. What if we had a hacker house where everyone had memory palaces? What if every politician practiced loving-kindness meditation?

Frequently asked questions

Logistics

What is Futurative?

Futurative is the Contemplative Futures Residency at Edge Esmeralda 2026, a four-week gathering of founders, scientists, artists, contemplatives, and institution-builders exploring the future of consciousness, meditation, technology, and human flourishing. Hosted by Meditation Artifacts.

When and where does Futurative take place?

Futurative runs May 30 to June 27, 2026, in Healdsburg, California, alongside Edge Esmeralda's month-long popup village.

How long should I plan to join?

Futurative runs for the full month, and you're welcome for as much or as little of it as fits your life. A few days is enough to dip in for specific conversations, a week gives you a real arc with the community, and the full month is where the deepest relationships and projects tend to form. Edge Esmeralda memberships are sold by the week. Once you've joined the Futurative community, you can coordinate with us to find the stretch when the people most relevant to your work will also be there.

Is housing included? How do I find a place to stay?

Futurative is a programming residency, not a live-in one, so accommodation is arranged on your own in Healdsburg. Once you've been accepted into the Futurative community, you can talk with us about renting a room in our shared accommodations when space is available.

How do I get to Healdsburg?

Most residents fly into San Francisco (SFO) or Oakland (OAK) and drive about 90 minutes north to Healdsburg. Sonoma County Airport (STS) is closest. Accepted residents can coordinate carpools and rideshares with the community.

Cost & membership

How much does Futurative cost?

Joining the Futurative community costs nothing on top of your Edge Esmeralda community membership. Membership in Futurative is by application, and accepted residents get access to private salons, gatherings, and conversations at no extra charge. Accepted residents also receive a small discount on their Edge Esmeralda ticket to help support their stay.

What does an Edge Esmeralda membership cost?

Edge Esmeralda sells weekly community memberships through their own platform. One-week tickets currently start at roughly $1,050 and prices rise as the event approaches. See edgeesmeralda.com for current pricing. All ticketing and refunds are governed by Edge City's policies.

Can I support Meditation Artifacts beyond joining?

Yes. Meditation Artifacts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations sustain Futurative and our other programs. You can give at meditationartifacts.org/donate. Recurring donors are recognized as Members and receive occasional invitations to help shape our work.

Application & selection

Who is Futurative for?

Futurative is for serious builders, researchers, and practitioners working at the intersection of consciousness, meditation, technology, and human flourishing: founders, scientists, artists, protocol designers, contemplatives, and institution-builders who care about both the inner and the institutional dimensions of the future.

How does the application work?

Apply through the Become a Resident form at meditationartifacts.org/futurative. We review applications on a rolling basis and typically respond within 72 hours.

Programming & community

Is there a fixed daily schedule?

No. Futurative is intentionally emergent. Once you're in the community, residents propose collaborations, working sessions, and events together, and the program leads host private salons, meals, and gatherings. The leads, speakers, and guests we invite to Edge will also be hosting private events with Futurative residents throughout the month.

Can I keep working while I'm there?

Yes. Many residents continue running their companies, research, and creative work from Healdsburg. Edge Esmeralda provides wifi, coworking-friendly spaces, and a rhythm that lets you protect deep-work mornings and join community programming in the afternoons and evenings.

What is the biggest reason to come?

The people. The deepest value of Futurative and Edge Esmeralda is the density of thoughtful, ambitious humans you would otherwise spend years trying to meet. Conversations over meals, walks between sessions, and late-night salons are where the most important relationships, ideas, and collaborations form.

How can I contact the Futurative team?
